Blair’s songs are based on stories or poems characters from literature. A few of her favorites from each album: from Little Queenie, “Wild Nights,” based on a poem by Emily Dickinson; from No Limits, “Selling Bibles” a song which tells of a woman jilted at the altar; from By Your Side, “Wait and See” for its positive vibe; and from With Any Luck, three songs: “Montana,” “Better Woman,” and “Emily Misunderstood,” (this last based on a short story by William Faulkner, “A Rose for Emily.”) She envisioned “Better Woman” as a response to Clint Black’s 80s country hit, “Better Man.” In 2017, Blair wrote original songs for a play by a Tacoma, WA playwright which were later recorded in a stripped-down version for a fifth album, “Songs for Unsung Women.” A standout from this album is “Mrs. Hawkins,” based on R. L. Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
In 2016, Roots Music Report reviewer, Duane Verh, said of Little Queenie: “If Chrissie Hynde had bolted Akron for Nashville instead of London, her unbuffereLinda Nicole Blair is a singer-songwriter from Port Orchard, WA, born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi. Western Washington has been her home since 1991. Many of d emotion and incisive observations might have taken shape something like those of Ms. Blair. The Washington-based singer/songwriter takes on romantic love’s frequent left turns and rude awakenings with straightforward lyrics and vocals to match. “Wild Night” in particular evokes the soulfulness of the aforementioned Ms. H. Other instantly attractive tracks include “All the While”, “Lucky Man” and “Far Away.”
